In 2012, Bertha Foundation launched its first bespoke program: the Bertha Justice Initiative, to train the next generation of radical young lawyers. Our stated mission then was (optimistically), “to train 1000 radical lawyers in 10 years to hold governments and corporations to account". In fact we trained nearly 500 over a period of 12 years. We achieved this through fully funding the selected early career lawyers and embedding them in leading human rights law firms in 20 countries around the world.
